Back to Viajante for Round 2!

617 calories burnt in 5.15 miles during a run around Regent's Park yesterday morning. The weather was SUPER nice to run in, very mild. The run started off really well but then my legs felt really tired after just 10 minutes but I remembered reading somewhere that the first 20 minutes is usually the toughest for runners- you just have to keep pushing yourself and you'll start to feel better. My legs and running movement just felt more fluid.

After a quick shower, I got ready to meet some friends at Viajante. I've already been there once before and I was excited to try it again for lunch. I'm not gonna lie- I enjoyed my experience more this time around than the last dinner experience. I mean it was still really good both times but I found this lunch a lot more up my alley!
Yuuumm- Thai explosion II!!  I was excited to see it on our menu again. It's got some sort of chicken confit in between two fried skins. It's also got lemongrass which reminds you of thai food. The fried lobster croquette was tasty as well. The green paste (puffed amaranth with sorrel) sort of reminded me of a wheatgrass shot even though I've never had one before, lol.. It literally tasted like eating grass and was a bit too healthy for me. Is that possible? ha!
cured artic char with barley tea and radishes
paprika bread with pork butter. :-D

Yuzu crab with herbal broth and shimejii mushrooms
I was SO impressed by all the beautiful colors on this plate. It was definitely a treat for the eyes.
roast beef skirt with girolles, turnips, and yeast (??)
I'm not quite sure what it was but something in the sauce reminded me of a korean soup called Doenjang Chigae. The beef was sort of hard to eat (too chewy!) but the flavor was outstanding. I really enjoyed it.. even though I'm not sure where yeast fits into it. That's what it said on our printed menu!
beautiful ladies!
palate refresher- I was in love this frozen marzipan with celery and lime. I think this was my favorite because the marzipan tasted like an extravagent almond dessert. It was so freaking delicious!
the main dessert was equally amazing as the palate refresher. Beetroot and dark chocolate crumbles (crunchy in texture sort of like oreos) WOW WOW WOW. Did I tell you how much in love I am with beets and to have this sort of dessert was like my lucky day or something! There were also chewy pieces of what looked like beets but I'm not quite sure what it was. All the different textures made this dessert really fun to eat too.
salivating just thinking about it...
mushroom truffles with coconut marshmallows!! Yes COCONUT marshmallows! I think I dun died and went to heaven!
catalan creme... We were fortunate enough to have Chef Nuno Mendes (which we didn't know at the exact moment) come to our table and present the first few amuse bouches. We did remark before we knew who he was that we found him very mysteriously attractive. I think it was the long shaggy hair, beard and humble aura. :-). The only misfortune is that we didn't get to take a picture with him!

Surprisingly, after all that I still had room for dinner later that evening.

chopped up some garlic and red onions
with some bok choy- mm mmm!
sauteed in a wok with soy sauce and siracha

the lamb ended up forming a really crispy crust in the oven so it was pretty good!!

I added some additional almonds and raisins

Cucs and Goat cheese

talk about a random but healthy snack: cucumbers with a tablespoon of goat cheese. crunchy and savory just how I like it :)
Dinner last night was Bigham's Indonesian chicken satay with some added prawns and broccoli. I managed to sub another zumba class and not totally fall apart from my recovering cold..
eggs and toast for breakfast

I proceeded to go for a run later in the afternoon. BAD BAD idea. About 20 minutes into the run, I started feeling a.w.f.u.l! I guess I'm not completely over my cold after all! My bad.. :(

Most of my morning/afternoon was spent researching and working on my personal statement. Thankfully I have my brilliant husband tearing it apart editing it. ha! Red ink EVERYWHERE. Bad Hanna Bad! :-) Not that I mind though because I'm always grateful for help---lord knows I could use it! I'll just have to keep on truckin! More on this later...
I stopped by Pret a Manger for lunch after my run. Don't ask me how but I managed to get lost while trying to get home from Regent's Park so I was actually running/walking for an hour!
I really love Pret a Manger's soups because they are filling and very hearty. Mmm.. soup when you're sick is peeerfect!
an afternoon snack that's pretty much dessert: banana bread w. a spread of nutella.. Yum!

Agenda: teach zumba, rest

Tamarind restaurant

after my PUNCH class, I had a berrylicious protein smoothie! I didn't have any more spinach so that is why the color is so purtty!!
  • skim milk
  • handful of ice
  • frozen banana (for an extra creamy smoothie!)
  • frozen berries
  • scoop of chocolate protein powder
  • squeeze of agave nectar
  • toppings: almonds. dark chocolate chips
for lunch, I had a very odd combination but it was mighty delicious.. Yummy beets!
I also warmed up a ready made piri piri chicken from Waitrose in the oven.
with some brown rice. God, did I tell you how much I love beets?! I didn't realize I had them sitting in our fridge for my consumption. T'was my lucky day :) Did you know they're good for you too?

I also snacked on some pretzels and hummus in hungry anticipation for our lovely dinner coming up that night.

We were lucky enough to dine at Tamarind, a michelin starred restaurant.

We started with some dipping sauces and pappadoms. Hello Indian version of chips and salsa!! If you get me started, I can't stop! Good thing we were dining with others and that sort of stopped me from taking the basket and putting the crumbs to my mouth ;-)

We went with the Shahi Dawat tasting menu. Everything was really delicious!
and very pretty to look at..The green stuff is this mint chutney--it was interesting but I'm not really sold on it. The tiger prawn was HUGE and tasted amazing.
their almond and date naan was super sweet and a good dipping utensil for the finger lickin sauces!
Help!! I can't get rid of that dark shadow in all my pictures. W.T.F. (what the funk!)
a trio of delicious desserts--- the rice pudding was my fav
I would definitely recommend Tamarind for their delicious food and unique take on Indian food. Even though it was an enjoyable dining experience, with the price considered, I wouldn't necessary go back. Plus, I thought the service could have been a tad bit friendlier-- can I get a genuine smile??

Breakfast this morning: Return of eggs and hummus. Can't get enuff!
Our eggs seem extra yellow today...humph...
After breakfast, I decided to test out my foot since I didn't feel my normal aching pain. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea at the time but the open pavement and fresh air was calling my name :)
okay, so I might have run veeeery slowly but at least I was running!!
and BOY was I SOOO happy to be out running again. I'm. in. love. with. running. today! My foot only started bothering me at the 45 minute point but I was able to turn around from Regent's Park and come home with a smile on my face. Running high fo sho yo!
My feet will thank me later..

Song of the day: Santana's version of "Songbird" on Glee!
